The club is pleased to confirm the signing of forward Gregoire Defrel from US Sassuolo.
Roma are still looking for a winger to replace Mohamed Salah, who left the Giallorossi for Liverpool earlier this summer, and the club have identified Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez as the man to replace ‘Momo’.
Corriere della Sera (Gianluca Piacentini) All that’s missing is the official announcement, which should arrive in the coming hours, and then Gregoire Defrel will be a new Roma player. At the end of protracted negotiations (the Frenchman was on the verge of a move to the Giallorossi in January before talks collapsed), Roma and Sassuolo have finally found an agreement. The Emilian club will receive around €20m (plus bonuses) while the forward will sign a 5-year contract before joining up with his new squad, which leaves for their tour of the United States tomorrow.
Sassuolo’s managing director, Giovanni Carnevali, has confirmed that the club turned down approaches from Roma for both Gregoire Defrel and Lorenzo Pellegrini in January. Speaking to La Clessidra di Sansepolcro, the director admitted though that Pellegrini’s future with the Neroverdi is uncertain as Roma may take up their buy-back option on the highly-rated midfielder.
Sassuolo’s director Giovanni Carnevali has told Sky Sport Italia that they are expecting to receive an offer from Roma for Gregoire Defrel, who the Giallorossi have been targeting for some weeks. The Neroverdi director suggested that a transfer is possible, and that it may include one or more of Roma’s youth players moving in the opposite direction.
