Roma have completed the signing of Matias Nani on a free transfer from Lanus. The young Argentine defender has been training with the Giallorossi since last July, but has only now been given clearance to play for the club.
Vocegiallorossa.it (Alessandro Paoli) Vocegiallorossa.it has learned that talks between Roma and Atalanta are now at an advanced stage for the Ivorian midfielder Franck Yannick Kessié.
Sassuolo’s director Giovanni Carnevali has told Sky Sport Italia that they are expecting to receive an offer from Roma for Gregoire Defrel, who the Giallorossi have been targeting for some weeks. The Neroverdi director suggested that a transfer is possible, and that it may include one or more of Roma’s youth players moving in the opposite direction.
In an interview with Sportowefakty, Lukasz Skorupski – who is currently on loan at Empoli from Roma – has stated that he will not return to the Giallorossi to be second choice to Wojciech Szczesny, should the Polish number 1 be signed permanently from Arsenal in the summer.
Corriere dello Sport (Roberto Maida) Ricky Massara and Walter Sabatini, together again. Yesterday evening the two met in London, together with intermediary Frank Trimboli, for a friendly reunion of colleagues and friends, but which also served a more professional purpose. But Massara didn’t just fly to England to meet his old master, who is currently in talks to potentially take up a role with Tottenham; the main purpose of his trip was to evaluate potential transfer options. For the avoidance of doubt, Franco Baldini – former general director of both Roma and Tottenham and currently Pallotta’s personal advisor – wasn’t present in London, choosing not to interrupt his holiday in South Africa for a working dinner.
There’s almost an entire team that can be chosen. Except for a goalkeeper and a left back, every position is covered. It’s a team of young Romans (or, at least, who have been brought through the system at Trigoria) who have left their home during the first six years of the American administration. The latest is Federico Ricci, who has gone to Sassuolo on loan with an option to buy and a counter-option for Roma. Will he ever return to Trigoria, having made his debut for his hometown club? It’s unlikely, for now.
The sound of the end of the transfer window has rung hollow at Roma, primarily due to the impossibility at the very end of giving Spalletti one more signing to complete his squad. They didn’t achieve their aim of getting a midfielder in as they risked leaving it until the very last hours of the window. Just before the end, Roma made it known that talks had broken down with Arsenal for Wilshere, who was the sporting director’s number one choice to replace Vainqueur, whose departure had been planned for some time and who had finally left that afternoon for Marseille (who will cover all the Frenchman’s salary) on loan with an option to buy.
