After arriving in the Unites States for the club’s pre-season tour, Roma defender Federico Fazio spoke to journalists at Eastern Michigan University, answering questions on the new Giallorossi coach Eusebio Di Francesco and their aims for next season.
Di Francesco’s methods
It’s great to be back and find out what the new coach wants us to do. I’m looking forward to getting started, and getting started in the right way.
It’s very important to understand what the coach wants from his entire team, not just the defence, and to get to know him and his staff.
He was a very important player for us but whoever comes in will be just as important. It’s important that we train well, the new players and coach included.
Where are improvements needed?
There’s always room for improvement, it’s impossible to play perfectly. You can always get better and change ideas. We’re ready and prepared to work hard.
Is the aim the scudetto?
Roma are a big club and we only just missed out on it last year, we had a good season. We’re looking forward to getting started.
A few players only arrived yesterday, mainly international players – will they be ready for the friendlies?
The coach will decide on the team, but all of us who are here are ready to play and to train.
Will you play with a 4-man defence?
Last season we started out with 4, then 3, then finished the season with 4. Personally, I don’t mind, both me and the other players are willing to do what the coach wants us to do.
Differences with Spalletti
It’s my first day [with Di Francesco] so we’ll have to talk about this in the future. The important thing is to get to know him and work together.
It’s an important season with the World Cup next year
Yes, but having a good season here with Roma is more important. Playing for the national team is always nice but for me, Roma is more important.
Have you spoken to Moreno?
I know him already, I’ve played against him. He’s a good player, he’s had a great career already.
