Kevin Strootman has extended his contract with Roma to keep him at the club until 2022.
Strootman made 45 appearances for Roma last season in his first full season back from injury, and he explained that the love and affection he felt from his team-mates and supporters during his lengthy layoff was part of the reason he has decided to stay.
“This extension is special for me,” he said. “I really want to win something here, and I will do everything I can to achieve that. Everyone at the club was behind me during my injury, and that is another reason I am delighted to stay.”
Monchi, the club’s new sporting director, is next expected to turn to new contracts for other players including Daniele De Rossi and Radja Nainggolan. De Rossi is out of contract next month, but president James Pallotta has already confirmed that he will remain with the club next season.
