Sassuolo’s managing director, Giovanni Carnevali, has confirmed that the club turned down approaches from Roma for both Gregoire Defrel and Lorenzo Pellegrini in January. Speaking to La Clessidra di Sansepolcro, the director admitted though that Pellegrini’s future with the Neroverdi is uncertain as Roma may take up their buy-back option on the highly-rated midfielder.
Did you turn down €30m for Defrel in January?
We turned down a big offer, but not €30m. We might have made a different decision if that had been the amount we were offered, but our policy is not to sell players in January.
Pellegrini and Roma?
They already asked about him in January, but the same goes for him as for Defrel. We’ll talk about this again in June, they have a buy-back option and we’ll have to wait and see if they intend to exercise it. We’d like to keep him for another season.
