Lukasz Skorupski: If Roma buy Wojciech Szczesny, I won’t go back

In an interview with Sportowefakty, Lukasz Skorupski – who is currently on loan at Empoli from Roma – has stated that he will not return to the Giallorossi to be second choice to Wojciech Szczesny, should the Polish number 1 be signed permanently from Arsenal in the summer.

Who’s better, Szczesny or Skorupski?

He’s kept 7 clean sheets, 1 less than me even though I’ve played 2 fewer games. Those are some fantastic stats, I like the fact that we’re both doing so well. I’m always proud when Polish players excel.

There’s a good rivalry between you. This summer you’ll be going back to Rome, but Roma want to buy Szczesny…

If they buy him then my future won’t be in Rome, I’ll go somewhere else. I want to play and get better, not go back and sit on the bench. So I’d go to a club where I’d get more chances of playing than at Roma. Szczesny is on top of his game right now.

Will you wait until the end of the season to make a decision on your future?

We’ll see. Empoli is the ideal place to improve but I don’t want to keep going out on loan. I want to play for a team who is competing at the top of the league, and most of all I want to stay there for longer than a year or two. Another loan isn’t an option.

In Italy people are talking about a possible move to Torino…

I’ve heard that on TV and read about it in the newspapers. I’ve talked about it with my agent, but he told me I should just think about playing – everything will be clearer at the end of the season.

Would you like to go to Torino?

They’re a very highly regarded club in Italy. A good side. They’re improving every year and they want to play in Europe. They have ambition. It would be good to play there.
