Europa League: Roma draw Villarreal in Round of 32

Roma have been handed a tough draw in the Europa League Round of 32 with a tie against La Liga side Villarreal.

While the Giallorossi managed to avoid meeting Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, Luciano Spalletti’s side will have it tough against Villarreal, who currently sit 6th in La Liga. Games will take place on 16th and 23rd February, 2017.

The Yellow Submarine finished 2nd in Group L, behind Osmanlispor of Turkey. They qualified by beating both FC Zurich and Steaua Bucharest 2-1 at home, and picked up a point in each away game, losing just once (at home to Osmanlispor).

Roma have faced Villarreal once before in the 2003/04 UEFA Cup Fourth Round, though it is not a happy memory for Romanisti as they were beaten 3-2 on aggregate. Their record overall against Spanish sides is not the best either, having lost 15 of 30 games against La Liga opposition in the past (winning 11, and drawing the remaining 4).
