Paolo Berdini’s departure from city council may benefit Roma’s stadium plans

One of the main obstacles in Roma’s path to getting approval for their new stadium could soon be overcome as Paolo Berdini, the city councillor responsible for urban planning, is set to leave his position.

According to Italian news agency Adnkronos, Rome’s mayor Virginia Raggi took the decision last night at a meeting attended by her closest colleagues in the council.

As was reported a couple of weeks ago, his position was becoming increasingly tenuous as a number of works – including the Stadio della Roma – were being held up as a result of Berdini’s views on the projects.

If the news is confirmed, it would present a significant boost to Roma’s chances of seeing the stadium project approved.
